Eddie Parker, 76, of the Taylor Valley Community in Damascus, VA passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, VA. He was born in Washington County, VA on October 22, 1946, a son of the late Glenn and Violet Parker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Yvonne Parker; and a son-in-law, Rick Thomas. He was a life long resident of Washington County, VA and was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during the Vietnam Era. He retired from Columbus McKinnon Corporation. Eddie enjoyed fishing in his younger years and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Annie Parker; three daughters, Marie Thomas, Emily Phipps, and Teresa Parker; four grandchildren, Dustin Thomas (Jessi), Derek Thomas (Kenzie), Marissa Crow (Parker), and Brandon Phipps (Ivy); eight great grandchildren, Kinley and Deacon Thomas, Cambrie and Ainsleigh Thomas, Winter Phipps, Azura and Akara Crow, and Braylien Easterling; one sister, Orpha Gentry; three brothers, Jack Parker (Gail), Fred Parker (Nancy), and Jim Parker; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Veterans Administration Hospital Care Team and the Doctors and Nurses in the CCU, PCU, and Hospice Unit at Johnston Memorial Hospital for all the love and care shown to Eddie during his illness. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm Thursday in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Mr. Maurice Widener and Mr. Bill Morefield, ministers officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, November 4, 2022 at Jackson-Lewis Cemetery in Taylor Valley, VA.
