Obituary We regretfully announce the passing of Dwight Benjamin Jones, who passed away surrounded by his loved ones on March 4, 2022. Dwight fought an aggressive battle with lung cancer and is finally at rest. He will be forever loved and remembered. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 27th at Money & King Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Brill officiating. As a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Dwight’s wishes are to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. A burial is expected in August or September of 2022. The family will notify loved ones of the date and time once it has been determined by Arlington National Cemetery. The date and time will also be posted on Dwight’s obituary page on the Money & King Funeral Home website. Dwight was born in Shidler, Oklahoma to Benjamin Franklin Jones and Viola (Carlson) Jones. He was the youngest of the four children in his family. He was a 1962 graduate of Shidler High School and received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering in 1967 from Oklahoma State University and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force through the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps Program. He was the husband of Sharon (Irwin) Jones. They shared 54 years of marriage together. Dwight joined the Air Force on September 12, 1967 and served until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel on November 1, 1983. Dwight loved flying and serving his Country. During his military career, he served in the Vietnam War and traveled all over the world. While in the U.S. Air Force, he flew the C-5, C-141, and C7A Caribou aircrafts. The U.S. Air Force recognized Dwight for his honorable service with a Distinguished Flying Cross for heroic actions in combat, 4 Air Medals, and numerous other personal and unit decorations. After retiring from the U.S Air Force, he continued to pursue his love for aviation while flying for Presidential Airlines and later with Airborne Express. He continued to fly with Airborne Express until he was required to retire at the age of 60 years old after achieving the rank of Captain. Dwight and Sharon made their permanent home in Burke, Virginia in 1979. Dwight enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He loved going to Lake Anna on their boat during the summers and scenic drives along Skyline Drive in the fall. Survivors include his wife, Sharon (Irwin) Jones; his daughters Rachel (Jones) Domencic and her husband Christopher of Leesburg, VA; and Sarah (Jones) Helman and her husband Andrew of Leesburg, VA. In addition, he has six grandchildren: Nicholas, Brayden, and Jordan Domencic; Grant, Madison, and Michael Helman. He is also survived by his sister, Melvina (Jones) Norris, of Copperas Cove, TX; brother, Lowell Jones of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel Jones; and infant granddaughters Angelina and Savannah Domencic. A visitation of family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 26th at Money & King Funeral Home.
