Obituary Friend to all, Dorothy Dolores Jones, passed away September 25 after a battle with cancer. Dorothy was born to Jessie Harris Smith and Willie Norris Smith, Sr. on August 9, 1963 in Suffolk, Virginia where she resided the rest of her days. She was married to the late Anthony Albert Jones, with whom she shared two children: John Anthony Smith and Jessica Elizabeth Ann Smith, both of Suffolk. She was a proud grandmother to three grandchildren-Jamareon Smith, Miracle Smith, and Jayceon Smith. Dorothy was marked by the ability to quickly become an integral and beloved member of any group with which she was involved. Whether as a home caregiver, a volunteer, a church member, or an employee – she endeared herself to those around her with her genuine love and willingness to join in. Dorothy was a loyal servant of God, willing to help whenever family, friends or her community had a need. She was a member of Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church where she volunteered in children’s ministry, the Suffolk Night Stay Program for the homeless, and many other areas. She served as a member of the Board of Hope for Suffolk and as a volunteer for the Coalition Against Poverty in Suffolk. She was a caregiver for many elderly patients in their homes and quickly became a member of their families. Dorothy had a passion for music, flowers, and writing poetry about her greatest love – God. Dorothy has passed into the arms of our Lord and is beginning an eternal and beautiful journey with her Savior. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is succeeded by her dear sisters, Dora Lee Harris, Olivia (Clarence) Boone, and Mary Sykes.,as well as her “Auntie” Willie Mae (Alvin) Artis, and many dear friends who were more like family. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 30th at 2 pm at Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church, 3488 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, Virginia 23434, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hope for Suffolk at Westminster Church (3488 Godwin Blvd. Suffolk, VA 23434).
