A Funeral Mass for Dorothy A. Mansfield, 87, who entered into rest surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, January 9, 2022, will be held at 11 o’clock on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at St. Mary the Virgin Mother Roman Catholic Church. Father Dan Papineau will officiate and the family will receive friends following the service. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. Born April 27, 1934, to Raymond and Helen Hopkins in Brooklyn, New York. Over her long and adventurous life, Dorothy went on to call home to Florida, Tennessee, Vermont, New Jersey, and South Carolina. Dorothy loved traveling with her husband Richard in her younger years but loved her time the most in South Carolina and New Jersey. In the past, Dorothy worked as a stenographer and was the owner of a knitting supply store named “The Spinning Wheel” in Little Silver, New Jersey. Her family was her world. She was always caring, considerate, and nurturing. A portrait of generosity, Dorothy was always there for her family. She had much love for nature and deep compassion for all of creation – plant or animal. She was an artist, an avid reader, an incredible cook, enjoyed needlework, and above all – a devout and pious Catholic. She passed these loves and virtues onto her family. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Richard Mansfield and daughter Mary, brothers Raymond Hopkins and Donald Hopkins and his wife Maureen, and brother-in-law Joseph DeCanio. She is survived by her sister, Evelyn DeCanio, her children Richard Mansfield and wife Lisa, Thomas Mansfield and wife Allyson, Elizabeth Ercolino and husband Anthony, and Mary Ellen Johnson and husband Dale, grandchildren, Victoria, Seth, Erica, Nina, Alexandra, Anthony, and Greyson – and many loved nieces and nephews. She will be forever missed. Dorothy Mansfield was much beloved and her family will be eternally grateful for the difference she made in their lives.
