Doris Vogelsang January 5, 2022 Share this obituary View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Ms. Doris ‘Dorsie’ Vogelsang, a lifelong resident of North Chicago, IL, passed away on January 5, 2022 at the age of 92. Doris was born in Chicago, IL in October of 1929. Her parents were Sophia and Walter Vogelsang. She was a graduate of Holy Family School in North Chicago and Waukegan Township High School, class of 1948. She began her career in 1948 at the Electronic Supply Office of Great Lakes and retired from Fort Sheridan with the Army at the US Military Entrance Processing Command after 39 years of federal civil service. Doris was a member of the Waukegan & Gurnee Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni since 2000. She was secretary of the Co-op Social Club in Waukegan. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Club Chapter 792 in Waukegan, AARP Chapter 150, Waukegan Women’s Club, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Senior Circle at Vista East, Golden Antlers of Park City, and Civilian Orientation Policies Services (C.O.P.S.) in North Chicago. She had been a volunteer at Vista Medical Center East since 1992. Doris is survived by her dear and beloved brother Richard ‘Vogie’ (Kathy) Vogelsang of Lindenhurst, IL; nephews, James (Brenda) Medeiros of Waukegan, IL and David Vogelsang of Salem, WI; niece, Susan (Terry) Kimberlin of Valmeyer, IL; great nephews, Major Justin (Lauren) Medeiros, USMC of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Ben Vogelsang of Salem, WI; grand nieces, Delaney Coomans of Bayside, WI, Teagen Coomans of Bristol, WI, and Carly Vogelsang of Salem, WI. She was preceded in death by her father Walter; mother, Sophia (1984); loving sister and best friend, Jackie Medeiros (2003); and niece, Lynn Vogelsang Coomans (2011). Our Dorsie was an independent, civic minded woman who loved her family and friends dearly. We will always remember those three little words she wrote on all her cards, notes, and letters, simply: “L-U-V Y-O-U T-O-D-A-Y” Visitation and Service will be on Wednesday, January 12 at Gurnee Salata Funeral Home, 4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL 60031. Visitation begins at 10:00 am. Service begins at 11:00 am. Interment follows at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.
