Donald Glenn Vines, age 90, of Rock Creek, passed this life on December 20, 2022. He was born on June 30, 1932, in the Rock Creek community of western Jefferson County, to Wesley Bain Vines and Ostelle Birchfield Vines, now deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Judith Huey Vines, and sisters Edna Vines Salter and Evelyn Vines Rhodes. He is survived by a daughter, Glennda Vines Moore (Mike) of Smoke Rise; a son, James Allen Vines (Robin) of Rock Creek; and a grandson, Seth Douglas (Genevieve) of Folsom, California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Don was a 1951 graduate of Hueytown High School, where he played on the baseball and basketball teams. In his graduating class, he was voted best-looking. Don was a serg 8theant in the U.S. Army and served in Korea in the heavy weapons Infantry. Along with his wife and children, he became interested in horses and horse showing. His children won many trophies and ribbons showing Quarter Horses and Appaloosas. He spent many a Saturday driving the horse trailer to shows all over the state, and he was always on the look-out for the next great show horse. Don worked as an electrician for U.S. Steel for 30 years. After retirement, he tended his large garden and took care of the livestock, including many horses, ponies, and goats. He also restored Studebaker cars and enjoyed competing in local car shows. He was an Auburn fan, and he and Judy enjoyed attending Auburn football, basketball, and baseball games, home and away, as well as SEC tournaments. He was a life-long member of Rock Creek Church of God and was recently honored as the oldest living member. The family held a private graveside service at Rock Creek Church of God Cemetery on Thursday, December 29, 2022, with Bro. Phillip Hill officiating.
