Don Robert Gorden, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 6, 2022. He was born March 10, 1932, in Anderson, Indiana, the son of Kenneth Pickering Gorden and Myrtle Beatrice Ogden Gorden. Dad graduated from Pendleton High School and attended Purdue briefly before deciding he didn’t like college. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably during the Korean War on the USS Coral Sea in the Mediterranean Sea from 1951-1955. Following his return to the states, he met and married Altha Bernice Williams. They celebrated 66 years together on December 1. Dad retired from IBM as a computer service engineer in 1988, having started his career there when a computer was the size of a small house. Dad loved building computers and tinkering with electronics. He once took the family on a vacation just to buy a kit to build our first color TV. His mother instilled an interest in genealogy and Dad would drag Mom on vacations to cemeteries as he physically traced his lineage. He is survived by his wife, Altha Gorden; his children, Shaun Gorden (Debbie), Kimberly Ellington (Bill, deceased), and Neal Gorden (Terri); three granddaughters, Noel Walburn (Brent), Tess Gorden (Neel, significant other), and Abby Gorden; great-grandson, Alex Walburn; sister, Judith Poling (Jack); brother, Keith Gorden (Mary); and niece, Vicki Lee. He was proceeded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Fields; and infant brother, Malcolm Gorden. Per Dad’s wishes, cremation was selected and there will not be a funeral. A private graveside service will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park at a later date. www.loosecares.com.
