Dolores “Lorry” Eleanor Alsip went home to be with the Lord on September 11, 2022, at the age of 99. She was born May 23, 1923 in Portland, Oregon to Jacob and Eleanor (Marshall) Alcott. She grew up on Columbia Boulevard in the house her dad built when she was young. She attended Holy Redeemer grade school and graduated from Jefferson High School, which she represented in the Rose Festival Court in 1941. She met Aaron Hal Alsip at the age of 15 while living on Columbia Boulevard. They were engaged the night before the Pearl Harbor attack and married on February 14, 1942 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Portland. After the war, She and Hal bought their first home in N.E. Portland and later moved to a larger home one block away. They raised their three daughters there and were active members of St. Andrew’s Parish and school. She was active in her daughter’s school activities and enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader for many years. As a young woman she had wanted to be a buyer for Charles F. Berg clothing store in downtown Portland. She did work for them for a while during the war. The owner asked her if she would be willing to work her way up to the buyer’s position. She agreed and soon found herself operating the elevator there – working her way up and down all day long! We always got a chuckle out of that story, said her daughters. Lorry’s family were the joy of her life. Many will miss Lorry for her beautiful smile, amazing stories, and her greeting cards and loving phone calls, never forgetting a special day. She was active in the local home extension group, and enjoyed Bible Study groups at Resurrection Catholic Church in Tualatin for many years. She also was an outstanding Avon Lady, winning many awards and was in Avon’s President’s Club. She was a nanny to her doctor’s children for many years. Lorry was always a determined woman. She joined TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) in 1969 and was a member of that organization the rest of her life. She reached her goal weight and became a KOPS (Keeping Off Pounds Sensibly) in 1971 and was honored many times during the next 50 years for that accomplishment. She was an inspiration to many in TOPS in Oregon and Alaska where her nickname was “The Queen Mother”, which she cherished. Once they were ready to retire, She and Hal purchased a half acre on Pete’s Mountain above West Linn, calling it their little piece of paradise. They lived their best years here where they built a small but comfortable home to enjoy a vegetable garden and open space. Lorry was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hal Alsip; her parents; and all her siblings, Elaine Carey, Baby Bobby, Irene Newcomb and Richard Alcott. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Darrell) Aleckson of Soldotna, Alaska; Kathleen (Jack) Super of Seaside, Oregon; and Mary Anne Alsip who lived with her and cared for her most of the years after Hal’s passing in 2001. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jackie Super, Scott Aleckson and Christy Aleckson; great granddaughter Katie Super and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. A visitation will be held from 10:15am to 10:45am Tuesday October 18, 2022 at Resurrection Catholic Parish, 21060 SW Stafford Rd, Tualatin, OR 97062. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00am with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorry’s name to Resurrection Catholic Parish School.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dolores Lorry E Alsip May 23 1923 September 11 2022.
