Delores “Dee” Borchardt (nee Klegin) was born on November 20, 1935, in South Saint Paul, Minnesota. She went to be with the Lord on December 19, 2022, after a battle with cancer. She was 87 years old. Dee grew up on her parent’s farm and met a young Navy sailor named Chuck when she was just a teenager. The two were together ever since. Life was never dull. Raising four children, working in Chuck’s TV shop, keeping a horse in the backyard. When she and Chuck bought a farm in Cambridge, Minnesota, Dee embraced her love of animals with more horses, geese, chickens, cows, pigs and even a goat. Whether it was cooking oatmeal for her sows, Marigold, and Petunia, giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a newborn kitten, or keeping chicks in the bathroom because it was too cold outside, Dee loved every animal on that farm like it was family. A back injury left her with chronic pain, but she still managed to stay active. She spent time weeding the garden, canning vegetables, training her dogs, and cooking. Despite early inexperience, Dee became a master baker, stretching paper-thin strudel dough, frying dozens of donuts and baking Christmas bread. She loved her dogs, especially her Australian shepherds, Cordelia and Danny, and was never without at least one cat in her home. Dee was brought to the Lord through her sister, Sharon and Sharon’s husband, Norm. She and Chuck discovered great comfort and fellowship within their church family and continued to serve the Lord as they moved to Texas and back again to Minnesota. As physical issues limited her ability to participate, Dee would be sure to bake something for church events. The last year was not easy for Dee, but she found great comfort in her faith. As Dee would often say, the Lord is good! Dee is preceded in death by her parents, Frances, and August; siblings, Tom and Roger; son, Paul. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 71 years, Chuck; children, Sue (Jack) Severson, Charlie (Betty), Dianne (Rob) Gallagher; grandchildren, great grandchildren; as well as her siblings, Sharon and Rich. A private family service will be held at Mattson Funeral Home. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
