Craig’s Obituary Colonel Jacobsen came from a military family. His father was a navigator in the Army Air Corps in World War II and in the Air Force during the Korean War. He also had two uncles who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. One served in Europe with General Patton; the other at Guadalcanal. Craig was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army in 1966 upon graduation from Florida Southern College. He then attended the University of Florida, College of Law. Subsequent to graduating from law school, Craig was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1969. He was transferred to the Judge Advocate General’s Corps (the legal branch of the Army) in January 1970. During his twenty-two-year career as an Army lawyer, he served as a defense counsel, prosecutor, and finally as a military judge in various assignments in the United States, Germany, and Italy. Among many of the military awards and medals he received during his career he was most proud of twice receiving one of the highest military awards given; The Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster. In 1992, Colonel Jacobsen retired from the United States Army and began a second career as an Assistant State Attorney in the Third Judicial Circuit of Florida. During his career as an Assistant State Attorney, he spent several years in the Special Prosecution Unit responsible for prosecuting crimes against children and homicides.
