Obituary Cherie Pick (nee Portmann), age 91 of St. Louis, Missouri, Asleep in Jesus, Monday, September 12, 2022. She was born when Herbert Hoover was president, when talking pictures were in their early days, when radio was becoming a major force in entertainment. She always made friends easily, and held friends firmly. She received wolf whistles while on a train full of soldiers just home from World War II. Early on, she developed a life-long love of playing cards, especially poker. She loved songs like “How Much Is That Doggy in the Window” and “Mairzy Doats.” She kind of asked Bill Pick out on their first date, but it took a little bit of time to turn into something. She married in 1953, and had three sons in 1958, 1960, and 1962. She did everything for these boys that could be done, spending countless volunteer hours at their school. After her husband died, she lived on her own for 26 years. She was by her son Brad’s side when he passed away too young. In the last ten or so years, she became more lively and free-wheeling than she had ever been before – there was a particular adventure at Fast Eddie’s Bon Air she loved to tell. She recovered from numerous health scares over the years, including Covid in 2021, but eventually succumbed to the heart problems she had for a long time. Her heart never failed her sons, or her grandkids, or her great-grandkids, or her friends. She is survived by two sons, Stephen Pick (wife, Cat) and Ken Pick (wife, Kim); six grandchildren, Todd Pick (wife, Heather), Kyle Pick (wife, Marissa), Brett Pick, Ashley Holbert (husband, Steven), Danielle Pick, and Brandon Pick; six great grandchildren, Alyssa Pick, Addy Pick, Lily Pick, Drake Holbert, Rayne Holbert, and Audrey Picard; several nieces, nephews and their families, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Pick; one son, Bradford Pick; parents, Walter Portmann and Blanche Portmann (nee Girard); and one brother, Walter Portmann (late wife, June). Services: Memorial at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 9733 Olive Boulevard, Olivette, Missouri on Saturday, September 17 with a time of gathering from 10 a.m. until the Service at 11:00 a.m. (Watch Video of Service) The Shepard Funeral Chapel is honored to assist Cherie’s family.
