Obituary Carolyn Sue Hankins, 77, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 11:25 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022, surrounded by family at Majestic Care Nursing Home in North Vernon, Indiana. She was born Carolyn Sue Eden in Louisville, Kentucky on December 15, 1944, to Arthur Morgan Eden and Zora Hardwick Eden Kenton. Carolyn was a typesetter for the North Vernon Plain Dealer and Sun. She was a member of Sand Run Baptist Church in Hebron, Kentucky. She graduated from Boone County High School in Florence, Kentucky in 1962. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her grandbabies and family. She also enjoyed reading and finding small collectibles (coins, Lefton and Fenton). Carolyn is survived by her son, Scott Douglas Hankins of North Vernon, Indiana; her daughters, Kelly Sue Shepherd (Paul Rutan) of Columbus, Indiana, and Shannon Renee Gasper of North Vernon, Indiana; her brothers, Melvin Thomas Kenton of Hebron, Kentucky and Jerry Douglas Kenton of Kipling, Ohio; her sister, Barbara Jean Kenton of Burlington, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Tyler) Fields, Braden (Leah) Gasper, Derek (Trish) Gasper, and Megan (Tyler) Clerkin, all of North Vernon, Indiana, Eden (Eric) Zhuang of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Andy Shepherd of Indianapolis, Indiana; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, father, Arthur Morgan Eden, mother, Zora Hardwick Eden Kenton; step-father, Melvin Kenton; grandparents, Mom (Ellen) and Dad (William Clayton) Hardwick; and infant son, Gene Michael Hankins. A funeral service for Carolyn will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Dwayne Lowe officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana Memorials may be made in honor of Carolyn through the funeral home to the American Heart Association.
