Obituary Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends. View Tribute Book Carl Tuttle, 80, of Palestine, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, in the comfort of his home. He was born July 5, 1942, in Robinson, IL, the son of Roy & Sylvia (Inboden) Tuttle. He grew up in the Robinson area before being drafted into the U.S. Army to play a part in the Vietnam War. Though his experience was a traumatic one, he never allowed the untold horrors of war to degrade his humanity. In fact, he would go on to enjoy a fulfilling and fruitful career as a designer at Briggs Pottery until they closed their doors. His life outside of work often found him out in God’s creation, be that camping at Blue Lake with his cherished wife or enjoying the peace of casting out over the Wabash, where he fished for many, many years. He was also active in a number of veterans organizations, including the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, Amvets Post #33, and Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. His friends and comrades could all attest to the man’s ornery sense of humor as well as his fun-loving nature. Skilled with his hands, Carl put them to use in his wood shop, crafting everything from birdhouses and benches to crutches and toy guns, which he made for his dear grandchildren. In the twilight years of his life, he found a constant and cherished companion in his dog, Samantha. Few things brought more life to his living than simply playing fetch with his four-legged friend, which he was known to do for hours at a time. Carl Tuttle’s 80 years were marked by courage, wit, and a tenacity of spirit that will continue to remind us all that life is what you make it. We are so thankful that Carl made his a good one. He is survived by his children & their spouses, Dan & Cherie Tuttle, J.D. Timms, Jana & Dave Renshaw, and Jeff & Carla Timms; his grandchildren, Ashley & Aaron Courson, Brandon Tuttle & fiancĂ©e Marissa Beczkalo, Laura Beth & Philip Denton, Decoda Halter, Drew Halter & Sarah Fishel, Ashley & Brandon Rinsch, Brandon & Alysha Timms, and Joe Haney; his great-grandchildren, Jac Courson, Katie Courson, Kamryn Rinsch, Ellisyn Rinsch, and Hayden Timms; his sisters, Carlene Turnock and Sandra Middleton; his brother & sister-in-law, Roy Lee & Sharon Tuttle; as well as several nieces and nephews. He married Harriet (Snow) Timms on October 25, 1996, and she preceded him in death on March 27, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond Tuttle; and his sisters, Cozette Campbell and Jeanette Sears-Shaffer. A graveside will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17th, at the Palestine Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the combined units of the U.S. Army, the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Immediately following military honors, a graveside service will be officiated by Celebrant Curt Goodwine. During the service, there will be a time for family and friends to reflect on memories shared with this dear man. Memorial contributions may be made to the “V.F.W. Transportation Fund”, and envelopes will be available at the cemetery. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Carl, please visit our floral store. Read more
