View Tribute Book Burnette Murra, 95 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Forest City, Iowa died peacefully on December 20,2022. At Burnette’s request, there will be a family service at a later date. Burnette Thelma Qualley was born on a farm near Lake Mills, Iowa, to parents Carl and Ida Qualley. Her father passed away when she was only 6 months old. Burnette graduated from Lake Mills High School and went on to receive a teaching degree from Waldorf College in Forest City before becoming a teacher in a rural one room school near Lake Mills. She was united in marriage to Arnold Murra in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, on October 9, 1948. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother, raising her three children and taking pride in her skills as a wonderful cook and baker. After her husband of 70 years retired, they spent many happy years traveling to see friends and family and spending several winters in Florida, although their favorite thing was to do was to spend time with their children and grandchildren. Burnette was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Evelyn Schultze, Irene Qualley and Carmen Rusley, and brothers, Arvin Qualley and Tilford Qualley. She is survived by her three children, Linda Murra Janssen (Van), Sharon Murra Harder (Rollie) and Wayne Murra (Damaris). Burnette was the proud grandmother of Brandon Harder, Christopher Janssen, Courtney Janssen East, Brita Murra, Zachary Murra and Lucas Murra. She loved to hear their stories and visit with her great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, Waldorf College or the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, in Burnette’s name.
