Burroughs, Bruce H. – age 68, of Cape May Court House, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 27, 2022 after a long illness. Bruce was born in Washington, NC; grew up in Davis, NC and attended East Carteret High School – Class of 1971. He came to Cape May in 1985 where he met his future wife and in 1992 Bruce became employed by The City of Cape May as a heavy equipment operator. He was known by the residents of Cape May as the “sweeper man” and he made many new friends along the way as he met them. He proudly worked for the city for 25 years before retiring. Bruce is predeceased by his parents, Curtis and Nancy Burroughs, and his brother, Merle Burroughs, all of whom lived in Davis, NC. He is also predeceased by his father-in-law, Thomas K. Jones and his mother-in-law, Carolyn L. Heath who both resided in Cape May. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Karen Burroughs (nee Jones); his 3 sons, Ryan, Brandon and Jody all of Beaufort, NC; his sisters, Bea Reno and Patsy Fulcher; his sisters-in-law, Frances Burroughs Lewis and Christine Jones Anderson (Danny) and brother-in-law, Thomas K. Jones, Jr; his beloved aunt and partner in crime, Madeline Harshman and all of his extended family members in England. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and grandchildren. Bruce’s viewing will take place on Monday (Mar. 7th) from 10am – 11am in the Spilker Funeral Home, 815 Washington St., Cape May where Bruce’s funeral ceremony will begin at 11am. For those who are unable to attend physically, Bruce’s funeral ceremony will be livestreamed.
