Obituary Please share a memory of Benjamin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends. View Tribute Book Benjamin Jones entered into eternal rest on October 26, 2022. He was born on February 15, 1935 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Evelyn Stevens & Benjamin Jones Sr. He was born and raised uptown on 8th Street. The family later relocated to the 9th ward 3336 Clouet St. Later in life he accepted Christ where he attended Christian Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie D. Bradford Sr. He was also a former member of First Pilgrims Baptist Church Pastored by Rev. Eugene Mitchell. He got married at a tender age to the later Mrs.Virginia Jones, and out of that union came 4 beautiful children. Betty Ann Jones, Benjamin Jones 3rd, Johnny Jones, and Iris Jones Harris, he also had stepchildren Monique Filmore, Alexander Filmore and Brunei Filmore with his life time companion Ms. Beverly Filmore. Also other stepchildren Joseph H. Young, Jr., Tyrone Young and Denise Young. Benjamin, also known as Shorty, loved his family and friends. He was a loving father to all his children. Shorty leaves to cherish his fond memories, his children Betty Ann Jones, Benjamin Jones 3rd, Johnny Jones and Iris Jones Harris, Stephanie and Jacqueline Miller along with his other stepchildren. Also, his two sisters Shirley Jones and Joni Williams, along with his surviving aunt Rosie Stevens, sister-in-law Ora Dee Lutcher, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with 16 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parent’s mother Evelyn Jones Stevens, his wife Virginia Jones, a daughter Gwen, 2 sisters Gail Kelly and Barbara Latcha, 1 brother Joseph Latcha, 3 grandchildren Montreal Jones and Germond Powell, Shawn Jones and Benjamin Jones Jr. Shorty will be sadly missed by those who truly loved him. May he rest in peace. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 10:00 am at Majestic Mortuary 1833 Oretha C. Haley Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9:00am.
