Anne Montgomery née Miller, age 85, of Winnetka, IL. Beloved wife of Mead Montgomery. Loving mother of Stuart (Shannon) Montgomery and Blake (Lauren) Montgomery. Proud grandmother of Sawyer Montgomery, Liam Montgomery, Charlee Mackey, Kacie Mackey; and Bodie Montgomery. Anne graduated from Valparaiso High School and then from Indiana University. Her business career covered many bases. After moving to Chicago, she taught business courses at Evanston High School, then directed the administrative staff training at Montgomery Ward, moved on to be a free-lance speaker and writer doing seminars on secretarial development, and then wrote a book on the subject successfully published by John Wiley. She then shifted gears and opened a retail store in the Oak Brook Mall and ended her business career as a real estate agent. Throughout, she always balanced her commitment to working with her role as mother raising her two sons. The manager of sports teams, the ever-present soccer and hockey mom, she loved her boys intensely and supported them with unlimited love. In 1991, Anne was diagnosed with Stage 3 pancreatic cancer. Miraculously, with good medicine and an indominable spirit, she survived for 30+ years. She devoted time, energy, and money to the fight against this horrible disease. A major achievement, working with the American Cancer Society, starting the annual Relay for Life within the north shore communities, which continues today. Balancing her life, Anne was always active pursuing her love of skiing, hiking in Colorado, taking 16 week-long bicycle trips, playing tennis and paddle, and dabbling at golf on her own terms. As she said, since no ball should be in a bunker, she never hit one from a bunker. Her smile was radiant and could light up a room. Even in her last few days she could turn on that marvelous smile when a family member or a care-giver entered her room. She loved with all her heart and soul, and was loved just as deeply by family in return. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, 3:00 p.m. at Skokie Country Club, 500 Washington Avenue, Glencoe, IL 60022.
