Allan Orr November 17, 2022 Send Flowers View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Allan “Skip” Grainger Orr passed away peacefully under the care of Hospice on Thursday November 17, 2022 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Allan was 89. Allan was born on December 31, 1932 in Tuscola, Michigan and was the son of the late Allen B. and Onilee (Smith) Orr. He was preceded in death by his brother Arnold Reichert in 1972 and sister Bonnie Seney in 2018. Allan graduated from Vassar High School in Vassar Michigan in 1951 and enlisted in the US Coast Guard immediately after. He was Honorably Discharged in 1954 and moved to Bradenton where he enrolled at Manatee Junior College to begin his postsecondary education. He went on to obtain degrees in Chemical engineering and Chemistry from University of Florida, a BBA in Management from New College of Florida as well as completing 2 years of Harvard Business School Studies in Industrial Management. He spent his career working in the manufacturing, acquisition and distribution industries, many times in a DOD environment. He was a remarkable man and admired by all who met him. He was always kind, caring and understanding to people. He was a blessing and brought great joy to everyone he came across. He was a dedicated family man who was always there when you needed him. Never one to have idle hands, his passion and hobby was “tinkering” as his wife Gloria would call it. He was often called “MacGyver” by his nieces, nephews and grandchildren because with his engineering mind he could always fix or manufacture whatever they wanted with whatever materials he had laying around. He loved spending time outdoors, especially camping with his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Gloria (Bennett); three children Jerry Oler Jr. (Laura), Angela Perez and Michelle Snyder (Jon); 8 grandchildren, Ben Patterson, Kyle Oler, Trevor Perez, Carmen Perez, Austin Orr, Allan Orr II, Nathan Snyder and Nick Means; 2 great grandchildren Carsyn Patterson and Quincy Ulysses; Sister-in-Law Fay Bostick of Rome Ga and Brother-in-law Virgil Bennett of Palmetto, Fl; many nieces and nephews as well. Services for Skip will be Wednesday November 30, 2022 2:30PM at Sarasota National Cemetery.
