Funeral Services for Alice Winona Belgard Nettles will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in the chapel of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Sklar, III officiating. Interment will follow in Alexandria Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held in the Kramer Chapel beginning at 10:30 a.m. Alice Winona Belgard Nettles, 95, of Alexandria, best known as Mama, Maw Maw, and Aunt Babe passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Tulane Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, James Harold Nettles; her parents, Winfield Hancock Belgard and Marie Rowena Breda Belgard; two sisters, Rowena Laurance Feazel and Nancy Coralie Cook; and two brothers, Dr. Joseph W. Belgard and Jean Emile Belgard. Alice graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School and attended Alexandria Business School. She worked for 30 years in civil service, receiving numerous awards for Outstanding Performance through the years. Alice retired as a supervisor in the Accounting and Finance Office at England Air Force Base. She was fond of jigsaw puzzles, playing solitaire and watching the last 20 minutes of New Orleans Saints games. Alice took great interest in her family’s genealogy. She researched it for over 40 years, and eventually published a book through the Library of Congress. The book had over thirty-thousand names in the family tree. She was a devout Catholic who attended Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church and St. Rita Catholic Church. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Paul Lee Nettles and Barry Lynn Nettles (Angela); grandchildren, Elisabeth Anastasia Nettles, Adam Christopher Nettles, Austin David Nettles (Victoria) and Paige Ferrant (Mario Parga); and one great grandchild expected in January, Leo Isaiah Nettles. Pallbearers honored to serve will be Mario Parga, Austin Nettles, Adam Nettles, Elisabeth Nettles, Paul Nettles, and Barry Nettles.
