Alfred’s Obituary Alfred David Searles, 91, of Rome, Georgia, went to his eternal heavenly home on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Searles was born in Chattooga County on June 7, 1931, son of the late David Washington Searles and late Hattie Mae McGraw Searles. He was preceded in death by his wives, Jimmie Koonce Searles (1956-1997) and Bonnie Faye Searles (2000-2019); son, Alfred “David” Searles, Jr.; brother, Roy Searles; sisters, Lorena Mitchell Crouch, Gladys Ivy, Annie Sue Dobson, and Vivian Lewis. Alfred is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Searles and Allison Searles Whiten (Charlie); grandchildren, Jonathan (Kara) Hicks, Tiffanie (Tony) Jarrell, Amber (Colin) Gentry, and Ashley Wade; and fifteen great grandchildren. Alfred was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and the Shannon Masonic Lodge No. 100. He was employed at Klopman Mills (Burlington) for 42 plus years. An avid hunter and fisherman, Alfred enjoyed all things outdoors, most often with a child, nephew, neighbor, or son-in-law in tow as well as his current hunting dog. He was a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and Georgia Bulldogs. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing and dancing with the senior citizens line dancing group “Silverados”. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Reverend Dixon Holtzclaw officiating and the Shannon Lodge #100 F. & A. M. performing Masonic Rites. Internment will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens, Summerville, GA, with American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting full military honors. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Friday at 2:00p.m. and include: Jonathan Hicks, Terry Lewis, Mike Chapman, Bradley Lee, Kenny Dobson, Greg Koonce, Danny Wooten. Honorary Pallbearers are: Hunting Club 109, Clay Baker, Clint Baker, Jeff Poe, Terry Poe, Scottie Moore, Glen Cleveland, Stacey Hunt, Lance Campbell, Dewayne Bailey, Gary Sutherland, Joseph Moore, and J. W. Moore. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Berryton Church of God, 2480 Back Berryton Rd, Summerville, GA, 30747.
