September 21 1949 August 27 2022
Alexander “Butch” Mines passed away peacefully at his home Saturday with loved ones by his side. He was born in The Bronx, New York and has called Benicia his home for more than 30 years. Alex happily served more than 30 years with the United States Navy as a Nuclear Submariner, serving in both the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf war. He retired as a decorated Command Master Chief, Quartermaster at Mare Island Naval base, in Vallejo CA. After his retirement from the Navy Alex worked every fun or interesting job he decided he would like to try, including kayaking guide in the waters around Sausalito CA, Dog training, Hot Rod restoration and working as a bartender at the Dead Fish Restaurant in Crockett. He was a man of many passions. None of them outweighed his passionate love for his immediate and adopted family members (of which there are too many to count) He is survived by his daughter Rebecca Mines; sister Dr. Stephanie Mines, his mother Muriel Mines; and his devoted partner in life Susan Creighton. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer Mines in 2018. Graveside services with full military honors will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 1st at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd. in Dixon.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Alexander S “Butch Mines September 21 1949 August 27 2022.
