In his youth, he was a drummer in the Drum and Bugle Core. Albin was the youngest of his 3 siblings. He admired his brother Henry for his service in World War II and was loved by his sisters Florence and Betty, whom he often spoke of fondly. Albin left home at a young age to attend St. John’s Kanty Prep School and graduated in 1948. He then attended Boston College and graduated with a B.S. in History and Government, and a Master of Education in 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces, serving in Germany from 1954-1955. When he returned from his deployment, a mutual friend introduced him to the love of his life, Janice Pianka. They were married Thanksgiving Day, 1958. He spent the next 34 years teaching history and economics at Sherwood High School in Montgomery County. He was always pleased to see teachers and students he had known through the decades. He was an avid gardener, lover of history, and a voracious reader. He was proud of his Polish heritage, spoke Polish and visited Poland and Russia. For many years, he compiled The Polish Studies Newsletter. His wife and his family were very important to him. Albin spent many happy years with his loving wife Janice, raising his three children on Gregg Road in Brookeville. As his health declined, he moved into assisted living at Friends in Sandy Spring Maryland and spent the last 2 years of his life there. His wife Janice spoke to him every day. He was extremely proud of his 3 children: Marcy, Betta, and Tad in whom he instilled values of strength, individualism, and accomplishment. He enjoyed seeing his 5 grandchildren grow up, graduate from college and get married (Rebecca and Nicole).
