It seems fitting that our father would return to his Father in Heaven and his beautiful bride on Veteran’s Day. Dad loved this country! Dad was one in a million with the most clever yet inappropriate sense of humor we all loved. He conquered a hike up Angel’s Landing at 80, a stroke, a heart attack (driving himself to Instacare DURING his heart attack), quadruple bypass surgery, a fall off a ladder while trimming a tree at 86, (DAD!), covid at 89, pneumonia at 90 (the previous day he was mowing his lawn), followed closely by covid part two, in which he actually got BETTER from his pneumonia and then soldiered on six more months. Three days shy of mom’s birthday (happy birthday mom!) and 26 days short of turning 91 (on Pearl Harbor Day, and we’re totally calling it 91) Dad peacefully and calmly took his last breath in the early morning, surrounded by each of his children who love him dearly. Dad was born December 7, 1931, in La Verkin, Utah, to Loren DeLance and Amelia Sanders Squire, the sixth of seven boys, followed by two sisters. Dad was senior class president of Hurricane High and continued to initiate class reunions until very recently. Dad married his sweetheart Louise Wilcox in the St. George Temple for time and all eternity January 31, 1953. Six days later he was deployed by the army to Germany for 18 months during the Korean War. Adrien and Louise spent 67 wonderful years together before her death in April 2020, raising four children and mentoring a foster daughter. Dad reached the rank of Corporal while serving as Supply Chief of the Arms Room, a lofty position for a soldier as young as he. His ability to organize and improve the system earned him the highest evaluation marks the army had seen in a long while, garnering him a personal visit from the Battalion Commander, who wished to shake his hand. Dad was a master marksman who impressed officers with his remarkable accuracy. Dad graduated from Brigham Young University in Business Education followed by a master’s in Education Administration. Dad began his career as a schoolteacher in Nevada, working summers as a Ranger at Zions Park, before moving to Utah to work as a textbook representative for Silver Burdett and Ginn until his retirement. Mom and Dad remained in the Bountiful house they bought brand new in 1963 “for $20,000” until his passing. They loved that house and all its memories. Dad loved hunting and was planning his next hunt even as he was bed bound. Dad was a Bob Ross painter, a meticulous carpenter and a gunslinger who never missed a “Gunsmoke” (Matt needed his help). Dad’s unwavering faith and commitment to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was steadfast throughout his life. Dad was a servant to all, snow blowing the neighbors’ sidewalks and driveways, often checking those far younger than he to see if they needed anything. His inability to serve others as he aged was the hardest blow. Adrien is preceded in death by his cherished wife Louise, his parents, five brothers, and his beloved grandson Brandon. We know they all stood in line to welcome him home. Dad is survived by his children, Dennis (Janie), Lori (Ron), Todd (Anne), Jeni (Scott), his foster daughter Irene (Paul) and his sisters LoRene (Jim) and Sandra (Alan). Adrien is the proud grandpa to Cydnee (Wesley), David (Anna), Eric (Ashlee), Greg (Myrinda), Trevor (Lauren), Jacob (Marissa), Elizabeth, Megan (Shea), Gavin, Hunter (Mikhaila), Sam, and Bella. He is Grandpa Great to Evelyn, Brody, Weston, Raegan, Henry, Lincoln, Azure, Eliza, Nolan, Ember, Miles, Ethan and Reese, who arrived six days before his passing. We are especially blessed to claim Dad’s health care angels as family. Marina, your compassion and ability to sense the care Dad needed all while assisting us as his children to know what to expect and how we could help him will forever make you “ours.” Aneti. Words fail. You are our angel. Your love for our Dad and for our Father in Heaven bonded you forever to our family. Dad lived for many months solely based on your care, and we know that. But for you, we will say, To God Be the Glory. There is a special place in heaven for you, dear Aneti. Mom and Dad left a legacy of kindness and selflessness. Those of us who remain will live each day attempting to be worthy of that legacy as we carry on in their names. And finally, Dad. We are so happy for you and Mom. Dance forever more in her arms! Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the Bountiful 24th Ward Chapel,720 E. 550 N. Friends may visit family Friday, Nov. 18th from 6-8 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Sat. from 9:30-10:30 am at the Church prior to services. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
