Tom V. Shirley November 23, 2020 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Tom V. Shirley, 73, of Wichita, Kansas, passed on November 23, 2020. He was born August 17, 1947 in Greenville, TX to Judith Kiner and Vernon Strayhorn. Tom joined the U. S. Navy in September 1964. In the Navy he was an Interior Communications Petty Officer 3rd class. While in Kansas he was a police officer with the Salina P.D., as well as a fireman for the Salina Fire Department, computer tech support for Alco/Duckwalls. He graduated for Kansas State University with his bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1981. He went on to work for NCR and then Boeing as a computer analyst until he retired 1996. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, brother Virgil “Butch” Strayhorn, son Jeff Shirley, nephew Allen Strayhorn and granddaughter Andra Shirley. He is survived by his brother Fred (Deborah) Strayhorn of Greenville, TX; son Jason Shirley of Derby, KS; daughter Kiersten (Kaylen) McKenna of Rose Hill, KS. His 9 grandchildren Elias Dunlavy, Hunter & Blake Shirley of Wichita, KS, Korbin (Max) Adams of Rose Hill, KS; Ashtyn Rich of Truckee, CA, Karysn Rich of Rose Hill, KS, Katy, Evan, & Lauren McKenna of Andover, KS. Thank you dad for all of the love, support, and instilled love of Sci-Fi! You will be forever missed and loved. Per Tom’s wishes there will be no memorial services.
