Rose Markham July 13, 1931 – October 1, 2020 Rose Markham, nee Calabria, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2020. She was 89 years young. Rose was born and raised in Jersey City, the youngest child of Italian immigrants. She attended A. Harry Moore School and went on to work at U.S. Casualty Insurance Company in New York City where she met Jack Markham, her loving husband of 68 years. Rose dedicated her life to raising her three daughters. She also helped her husband build a successful business, Bridges Insurance Agency, where she worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She eventually worked in the computer room of Sterns Department Store in Paramus. Rose was devoted to her family, preparing her famous, authentic Italian dishes and instilling her traditional values in her children. She was a lifelong Yankee fan, Jai Lai enthusiast, and frequent flier at the Roulette wheel – which earned her the beloved nickname, Rosie Roulette. She is survived by her husband, Jack, and their three daughters and sons-in-law: Janice & Michael Timmins, Mary & Michael McKenna, and Lauren & Rich Stivala. She was blessed with 8 adoring grandchildren: Keith, Tara, Chris, Jessica, Michele, Chelsea, Sierra, and Vienna, as well as precious 8 great-grandchildren: Kyle, Lia, Maya, Niko, Ryan, Anthony, Alex, and Bella. From loudly cheering in the bleachers to proudly applauding at recitals, Rose was truly the epitome of their #1 fan. Rose always opened her home to others and made a lasting impression on anyone whom she encountered. She will be deeply missed. A Funeral Mass was held on October 5th, 2020 at Scared Heart Church, Rochelle Park, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, Rose’s family asks anyone who would like to donate to make a donation to Project ALS on behalf of Rose’s granddaughter, Michele, who was recently diagnosed with early-stage ALS. www.fightALSnow.org.
