Obituary SALEM – Mr. Everett L “Doc” Dawkins Jr. 79, of Salem, Tilton, NH and Naples FL, beloved husband of the late Joan M. (Young) Dawkins, died unexpectedly, Sunday, October 25th, 2020 at Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Everett L. Sr. and Geraldine (Andrews) Dawkins. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School in 1959. He continued his education at Salem State College, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Mr. Dawkins had been employed for many years as an Engineer with the New England Telephone Company until the time of his retirement in 1993. Never one to truly “retire”, he went back to work at the Winter Island Yacht Yard, he truly loved and enjoyed every minute of his job. It allowed him to see friends, work on boats, be out of doors and tinker. He was also co-proprietor of Anchorage De-Struction, a construction company started with some of his friends. Never one to sit still, Doc enjoyed keeping busy with his hands, mind, and spirit. He lived a full life. He enjoyed the out of doors. Hiking, fishing, boating and sailing to name a few. He also enjoyed playing Ice Hockey in a men’s league for many years. The ocean and its vessels were a true passion. He was the owner of many boats affectionately named “Red Rover”. He captained many sailing trips up and down the east coast and through the Virgin Islands. A fixer and tinkerer, he loved to build model boats, as well as fix electronics or anything in need of a “slight adjustment”. A longtime resident of the Willows Section of Salem, neighbors would look out the window and see “Doc” wearing out a path from his house to his garage and back while working on one of his many projects. He was a member of the Juniper Community Club and the Imperial Wilderness Association. He enjoyed hiking trips with fellow members of the Grouse Patrol on the Appalachian Mountain Trails. Summers on Lake Winnesquam were always memorable and beloved when Doc was there. He and Joan travelled extensively, across the world; from Alaska to Fiji, from Europe to South America, from Cruises to trips in the RV across the country visiting almost every National Park. He always enjoyed returning home to his place in Tilton, NH, or winters in Naples, FL. Their true home was always the Willows as they were surrounded by family and friends. Doc will be remembered for his contagious smile and his unmistakable laugh, which was one of those whole-body laughs, which was just infectious. He will also be remembered for his kindness, his ever-present energy, his willingness to help others and his love of family and friends. Doc is survived by his daughter, Emily Meechin and her husband, Chris of Lynn, his son, Everett “Ebby” Dawkins III and his wife, Kim of Salem, his grandchildren, Nora Joan Meechin, Lillian Mae Meechin and Samuel Everett Dawkins, his brother, R. Parker Dawkins and his wife, Betsy of Huntington Beach, CA and brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Eileen Young of Salem. He was also the beloved father of the late Debora “Debby” Dawkins.
