Obituary Dolores “Dee” Van Houten, 77, of Union Beach, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Dolores Whitney on October 30, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she met her beloved husband, John. On June 10, 1961, Dolores and John were married and began their lives together in Jersey City. A few years later in 1969, they settled in Union Beach, New Jersey to raise their family. Before her retirement, Dolores held various job titles over her lifetime. Besides her work as a wonderful homemaker and mother, Dolores delivered newspapers for the Asbury Park Press for over 30 years. She also worked in the Hazlet Union Avenue School Cafeteria and was well known as “The Hot Dog Lady” for Bob’s Top Dogs, a hot dog truck that was located on the Union Beach beachfront for many years. Dolores enjoyed bowling every Saturday afternoon with the AC bowling league in Airport Plaza. She was an avid crafter, making themed gifts for loved ones. Dolores was known for her warm smile and positive attitude. Her motto was “one day at a time”. Most of all, Dolores was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents, Vincent and Elsie (Vernay) Whitney, her beloved husband, John J. Van Houten, her cherished granddaughter, Brittany Cena, her daughter-in-law, Maureen Van Houten, and her dear siblings, Vincent Whitney, Ronald Whitney, Robert Whitney, and Barbara Rice. Dolores is survived by her loving children, John Van Houten of Beaufort, South Carolina, Denise Cena and her husband, Ernie, of Toms River, Jeannette F. Van Houten of Union Beach, New Jersey, and Michael Van Houten and his wife, Tiffany, of Union Beach, New Jersey, her cherished grandchildren, Carol-Ann Cena and her fiancé Herb Spicer, Amber Cena, Allie Van Houten, Mikey Van Houten, Ryan Van Houten, Michael Milburn, Amy Milburn and John Milburn, and her adored great grandchildren, Nevaeh and Jazmyn Spicer, Caitlyn Rowe, and Ravyn Ramierez. Dolores had great love for her brother in law and sister in laws, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Dolores will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Monday morning, October 26, 2020 from 8:30 to 9:15 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday morning, October 26, 2020 at 10:00 AM at The Catholic Church of St. Ann, 311 Carr Avenue, Keansburg, New Jersey 07734.
