Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Josephine (née Cardamone) and Michael Cabot, Richard was the second youngest of six siblings; Louis Cabot (deceased), Nathan Cabot (Lucy) (both deceased), Michael Cabot (Norma) (both deceased), Joseph Cabot (deceased) (Marge), and sister Carole Leaman (Roy, deceased). Richard’s legacy continues through his sons Christopher Cabot (Jaime), James Wall (Laura), his daughter Kimberly Carlo (Michael), his lifetime best friend and confidante, Mary Ellen Cabot, his sister Carole Leaman, 11 devoted grandchildren who meant the world to him, many beloved nieces and nephews, and countless others whose lives were impacted by Richard’s dedication and authenticity. Richard’s family, immediate and extended, brought him immense joy and pride. He never missed an event, game, or opportunity to celebrate a milestone or accomplishment (even if he snuck in the occasional party nap). He was an important staple in many lives, and he will be resoundingly missed. As a teenager, Richard formed a close circle of friends that he kept throughout his entire life. Richard reminisced fondly and often of his old stomping grounds and his adventures with his friends. After graduating from Lakewood High School in 1956, Richard began working for Ohio Bell Telephone Company, where he was promoted to management and remained until his retirement in 1991. Richard entered and served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, a cause he honored his entire life. In his retirement, Richard volunteered several years of his time working to build up children and support his community with the Ohio Bell Pioneer Club. Eventually, he embarked on a second career journey with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department as a Process Server for 13 years. Richard was meticulous and always went above-and-beyond in his work, valuing integrity and honesty above all else. Richard Cabot was completely selfless. He put others first, always. He was extraordinarily helpful, kind, and generous. Richard thought deeply, frequently pondering human nature and the universe. His family jokes that “he could tell you how many golf balls it would take to get to the moon,” but he really could. The truth was very important to Richard, and he read, discussed, watched, listened, and learned until he knew it. He never wavered from his core values. He never lied or cheated. He had a sharp wit, an unmatched sense of humor, could tell the best story, and was so genuinely interested in and supportive of the lives and ambitions of those he loved. He loved motorcycle trips, tinkering in the basement and garage, Cleveland sports (and all things Cleveland), dipping his toast in black coffee, hats and jackets, bizarre foods, his home on Walter Road, his beloved dogs (his Scrappy), Kelleys Island, quality time, a whiskey, and so much more. Richard lived his life fully, and leaves behind a legacy that will shine through those he loved for generations to come. Due to the pandemic, funeral services will be private.
