Phyllis’ Obituary Phyllis J. Wohler, 98, of Topeka passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2020. She was born on May 16, 1922 at Barnes, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Laura Sondker Poersch. She was raised at Barnes and graduated from high school there in 1940. She worked at Sikes Store in Leonardville and worked as a nanny in Clay Center and Topeka during the war years. After her marriage to Orville, she worked as a bus driver and school secretary at Blue Valley Rural High School. Phyllis loved music, especially playing the piano, singing, bird watching and crochet. She was a lifetime member of Fancy Creek United Methodist Church. She was married to Orville “Bud” Wohler on April 22, 1944 at her parent’s home at Barnes. Mr. Wohler passed away on July 20, 2014. She is survived by her daughters, Dixie Lea Challacombe and husband Gene of Topeka, and Dolores Schoenfeld and husband Jim of Topeka; grandchildren, Chad Challacombe and wife Crystal, and Dee Schoenfeld; great grandchildren, Taylor, Macray, Harper, Chloe and Cayden and a great-great grandchild, Killick; her brother, Arris Poersch of Denver also survives. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2020 at the Fancy Creek Cemetery. She will lie in state from 11:00-4:00 on Thursday, August 13th at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.
