John M. Doezema, passed away peacefully at home Friday, August 28, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. John was born October 19, 1934 in Grand Rapids. John and the love of his life, his wife Judy (Folkertsma) were married on May 26, 1960 and have lived in the Tri Cities for over 55 years. John grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He served his country with distinction during the Korean conflict in the United States Army. Upon returning from Korea, John began a lifetime of entrepreneurial activities founding multiple businesses. He was also deeply involved in real estate development. John’s attention to detail and architectural nuances created unique and cutting-edge designs on all his many projects. John’s adoration for his family defined his special and unique relationship with his wife, Judy, daughters Jodi Doezema, and Terri Rozema (James), grandchildren Cassandra, Alexis, and JR. In addition, John is survived by two brothers, James and Willard (Carol) as well as many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Mae Doezema, as well as granddaughter Vivian, sisters Mary Knossen (Jim), Kathy Gritter (William) and sister-in-law, Gerry Doezema. John and Judy enjoyed spending time with their countless friends at Spring Lake Country Club, where he and Judy were members for over 50 years. John was an accomplished golfer, who made everyone he was playing with feel at ease. At the golf course, John was best known for his brilliant humor and his robust laugh. John and Judy spent their lifetime involved in philanthropy that helped countless organizations and impacted the lives of many people. John was a man of deep faith and served as a Deacon at Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven. John was a man of great stature, a leader, and an inspiration to many. His intellect, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed by those who knew him. A small gathering of family and friends will be held at the Spring Lake Cemetery with Reverend Laura De Jong officiating.
