Janet Sue “Craig” Nichols, 74, returned to her Heavenly home on Friday, August 14, 2020. Janet was born July 20, 1946 in Carthage, MO to Gordon and Jean “Aldridge” Craig. At the age of 11 she accepted Christ and was baptized. She was a member of the 1964 graduation class of Carthage High School. Retiring from J.C. Penney in Joplin, she spent her free time enjoying her family. Three years ago a stroke took her ability to walk or talk. Janet married Larry Southern in 1963, and to this union two daughters were born. The marriage dissolved, but the love of her family remained; to her family she was “Nanny”. Janet is survived by her two daughters, Kim Wilkerson and husband Scott of Carthage and Shannon Motzkus and husband Lee of Houston, MO; three siblings, Karen Williamson and husband Craig, Mary Kyte and husband Greg, and Mike Craig and wife Rhonda, all of Carthage. “Nanny” was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Janet requested that she be cremated. A private family memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In her memory, contributions may be made to Fairview Christian Church Food Pantry in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.ulmerfh.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home. To send a memorial gift to the family of Janet Sue Nichols please visit our Sympathy Store.
