Obituary Geoffrey Allan Jones, 58, “Baabiidaash” of the Bizhew Clan (Lynx Clan of Leech Lake Reservation) and Duluth, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on Monday, August 3rd, 2020 from Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Geoffrey was born in Brainerd, MN on August 17th, 1961 to Darlene (Morrow) Sanders of Sugar Point – Leech Lake Reservation and Louis Jones of the Mille Lacs Reservation. He grew up in Bemidji, MN, attended elementary and secondary school there. Geoffrey further his education by attending ST. Scholastica College in Duluth and Minneapolis Community College. Geoff enjoyed playing softball for American Indian Services and volleyball for the Indian Health Board. Later, Geoffrey relocated back to the Duluth area to be near his family, residing in the San Marcos Apartments, where he made lifelong friends. Although his time on earth was limited by various health conditions, “Jeffrey” will be forever missed by his siblings, family and friends. He is welcomed to the spirit world by his parents, Darlene Sanders and Louis Jones; brothers, Gregory, Thomas, and David Jones; sister, Audrey Jones; maternal grandparents, Lettie (White) and John Morrow; paternal grandparents, Florence (Jackson) and Fred Jones, Sr.; uncles, Hartley White, Arthur, Walter and Max Morrow, Sr. and nephew, Stacy Cotter. Geoffrey leaves behind his brothers, Michael and Darrell Jones both of Duluth and Jason Merrill of St. Croix, WI; sisters, Bed (Russell) Northrup of Sawyer and LeAnn Merrill of St. Croix, WI; uncle, Jack Morrow; aunties, Leona Shaugobay, Barbara Ann Shipley and Dorothy Aubid; nieces, Naomi Northrup and Sheila Cree; nephews, Richard Cotter, Jerron Jones, Rory Northrup, Cameron, Daniel and Austin Jones, many great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. An overnight wake for Geoffrey will begin at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6th and continue until his 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Friday, August 7th all being held at the Bena Community Center in Bena, MN. Rick DeFoe will be his Spiritual Advisor. Pallbearers for Geoffrey are Jon Wright, Richard Cotter, Joln Cotter, Jeremiah Cotter, Daniel “Bizhew” Jones and Clayton Rainey. Alternate pallbearers are Caide Northrup and Russ Northrup. His honorary pallbearers are Deb Northrup, Michael Jones and Darrell Jones. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Bena, MN. Geoffrey’s care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker, MN.
