Audrey Hunter passed away on June 23, 2020 at GMC extended care where she had been a resident for seven years. Cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Audrey Marie Sundet Hunter was born in Vida, MT on January 23,1930 to Arnt Jay and Gerda Maria (Stromberg) Sundet. She joined older brothers Oren, Arvid and Carrol on the family Homestead. The family moved to Circle a few years later where Audrey relates they lived in a tar paper shack. She also remembered collecting buffalo bones in the hills with her brothers and selling them for cash. The family moved from there to several small towns in western Montana, finally settling in Fairfield. After graduating from high school in 1947 Audrey moved to Great Falls and eventually went to work for Sears, where it just so happens that Charles Hunter also worked. In his words “In walked this tall, leggy blonde”. And so, Audrey and Charles married on July 2nd 1949 in Great Falls, MT. To this union were born John Dayton (Mary) Hunter, Michael Eric Hunter, Leslie Marie Hunter, Sari Lynne Hunter, and Kelly Ann (Sam) Phanekham. Audrey’s marriage also gave her the gift of a relationship with her sister-in-law Audrey (Audie) Hunter Bohley. They were very close and tended to get crazy and silly, often getting chastised for their behavior or being loud. They would just laugh and continue on. She was an excellent seamstress creating countless outfits for herself, her husband, her children and grandchildren. She was also an excellent cook and baker (even though early attempts at health foods were a dismal failure) and she handed down her skills and love of food to her children. In 1967 Audrey and Charles moved the family from Great Falls to Glendive where they purchased the Coast to Coast store and the two of them worked together with their children helping out for many years. Audrey was most proud of going to college later in life starting at DCC and continuing at MSU Billings where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. She then worked at Gabert Clinic in the insurance and billing department until her retirement. Audrey was most annoyed by her children’s scatological talk around the dinner table. Audrey was active in the GMC Auxiliary, Zonta, Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, and was a 50+ year member of the Methodist Church. People remember her for her sense of humor. Her granddaughter Joey reminded us that Audrey requested that her high school photo be used in her obituary because the gap in her teeth was photo shopped out and it was the last time she ever liked her hair, which through the years varied wildly from platinum blonde to flaming red. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, daughter Kelly and brothers Arvid and Oren. Audrey is survived by her children John, Mike, Leslie and Sari; her grandchildren Joey Clingingsmith (Travis) Schipman, Garth (Tracey) Clingingsmith, Hunter Clingingsmith, Christopher Phanekham, Derek Phanekham, Jamie Phanekham; her great-grandchildren Dayton Clingingsmith, and Sean Clingingsmith; brother Carrol Sundet; sister-in-law Audrey Bohley; her very special sons-in-law Sam Phanekham and Keith Clingingsmith and numerous nieces and nephews.
