Ruth Davenport June 18, 1921 – July 15, 2020 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card On Wednesday, July 15, 2020 Ruth Davenport made her transition from Burlington Woods Nursing Home to God’s Heavenly Home at the graceful age of (99) ninety- nine. Ruth was born in Cumberland, Virginia on June 18, 1921 to the Late Lloyd William Davenport, Sr and Eveline James Davenport. Ruth was affectionately known as ‘Aunt Ruth” by her loving family. She was educated in the Cumberland public school system where she was born and raised until she relocated with her mother to Mount Vernon, New York. After her Mother’s passing, Ruth relocated to Paterson, NJ to live with her late brother and sister in law; Jessie W. (Red) Davenport, Sr and Lottie Davenport Mayo. Ruth resided with the family for over sixty (60) years. During this time, she lived in Farmville, VA and Willingboro, NJ with her loving care giver and guardian, the late Lottie Davenport-Mayo before going into the Burlington Woods Nursing Home after suffering a stroke. Ruth was a devoted member of the Greater Faith Church of Christ in Trenton, NJ. And, she was a faithful member of the Greater Bethel Church of Christ in Paterson, NJ and the Anointed Fellowship Praise Church in Cumberland, Virginia. She was baptized and received the holy ghost at Greater Bethel Church of Christ under the leadership of the Late Bishop Herbert Frazier. “Aunt Ruth” was known for her beautiful smile, gentle, loving and jovial spirit. Her favorite phrase was “Hey Gal”. Aunt Ruth was known for making pancakes the size of a skillet and she had no problem swatting you with the dish towel if you got out of line. Aunt Ruth always kept a stash of Pork Skins, Pepsi soda and Mary Jane candy, which was lovingly supplied by her special nephews Dennis, Steven, Jessie (all of whom preceded her in death):and Ronald. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Lloyd William Davenport, Sr and Eveline James Davenport, Step-mother; Hazel Davenport, Brother’s; JessieW.(Lottie),Arthur(Ada),Theodore“Bubba”(Mary),LloydJr(Leolaree),Chester,Harry“Capp”(Cyncia),Paul(Deloris)and Ollie Davenport; Sister;Sarah Foster(Mack), all of New Jersey and Virginia. She is survived by her siblings; Henry Davenport of Chesterfield, VA; Joseph Davenport(Mae) of Buckingham, VA; Thelma Morris(Lorenzo) of Powhatan, VA and Lottie Foster of Cumberland, VA; She shared a special bond with her nieces and nephews with whom she resided with in the home of her loving brother, the late Jessie(Red) and Sister-in-Love, the late Lottie Davenport-Mayo; Denise Castro, Patricia Cebollero (TC),Linda Davenport-Wood(Rudy), Ronald Davenport all of New Jersey, Michelle Davenport Montgomery(Gus) of North Carolina and the late Jessie W. Davenport, Jr. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, relatives and friends. Ruth will be greatly missed by many; but her cherished memories will forever live in our hearts with an everlasting love.
