March 21 1924 July 13 2020
Rosalie Dickinson March 21, 1924 – July 13, 2020 Born in the East Harlem neighborhood of New York City, NY, Rosalie was the first born of Sicilian immigrants Salvatore and Frances (Como) Di Lorenzo. At 16, Rosalie earned a scholarship to the New York City Central Needle Trades High School (now the High School of Fashion Industries). She enjoyed a career of more than 30 years in the garment district of New York City where she was known as “Miss Rosalie”. She served as an executive fashion designer for several dress houses during the 50s, 60s and 70s and her designs were frequently featured in publications such as Women’s Wear Daily and Mademoiselle magazine. Rosalie retired to Florida in 1975, living in DeBary, Port Orange and finally to Myerlee Manor in Fort Myers in 1999. Rosalie was a fiercely independent spirit – a single, working mother/professional, she brought her creativity and passion to everything she did…designing fashions for others, modeling clothes well into her 80s or in the kitchen creating Sicilian and Italian cuisine. Nothing brought her more joy than being “Nana” and spoiling her granddaughters. Rosalie is survived by her only child, son Sal (Ginny) Dickinson, granddaughters Alexandra (Connor) Smith and Jessica (Carlo) Casalegno, and many loving, devoted nieces and nephews. Rosalie was preceded in death by her siblings – Benedetto Di Lorenzo (1926-2004), Joseph Di Lorenzo (1931-2020) and Catherine Ranaudo (1938-2007), as well as her niece Francine Precipuo (1958-2019). A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family is extremely grateful of Hope Hospice for the outstanding care given provided to Rosalie, and encourages any memorial contributions be made to Hope Hospice and Community Services of Fort Myers.
