Lloyd’s Obituary Lloyd Clemens Brandt was carried away by the angels on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Hospice Brazos Valley in Bryan, Texas after a rapid decline in health. He was accepted into his Heavenly home as promised to him by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A visitation will be from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Lloyd Clemens Brandt was born on July 14, 1929 to Vera Ella Mayer Brandt and Clemens Brandt, the eldest of 5 children in the Latium Texas Community. He went to the Latium School, he joined the Army on May 2, 1948, and was honorably discharged in May 1952, upon returning home, he attended night school at Blinn College. He married Anna Rose Wassermann on September 5, 1953 in Brenham, Texas, to this union 4 children were born. In life he worked his shop, Brandt’s Garage, which is still in Latium, Texas today, as a blacksmith and general repairman from 1953 to 1973, at which time he went to work in Brenham at Continental Carbon, and then onto Valmont/ALS until retiring in 1992; then he returned to his shop repairing lawnmowers and doing small engine repairs for another 25 years until 2017. He served his community in many capacities, as a Shelby VFD member, as president of Harmonie Hall for 19 years, at LWG-VFD as Fire Chief, and later as the President of the Department. He was a member of the Shelby American Legion Post 602, as well as the Wesley Shooting Club. He was also a frequent blood donor, which is another sign of his giving spirit, saving others lives. He was confirmed into the Catholic faith in 1974 by Bishop Vincent Harris at the Sacred Heart Catholic of Latium, Texas at which time he became a devoted member, and remained so until his health diminished. He enjoyed gardening; however, his favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, and most of all polka dancing at any area dancehall. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family on the Texas coast from Matagorda to Rockport for 2-3 days at a time, any chance he could get away. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Anna Rose Brandt, his children, Sonja Cudd and husband Larry, Luke Brandt and wife Deandra, Tanya Steele. Grandchildren Kristie Cudd Canterbury and husband Todd, Melody Cudd Velasquez and husband Shilo, Mick Steele and wife Chelsea, Nikki Steele Smith and husband Mickey. Great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Haley Canterbury, Addison, Emaline, Jackson and Aubrey Velasquez. Also step-grandchildren Randa and Chris Ruscher, Chelsea and Britten Womack, Trevor and Emily Braun; step-great-grandchildren Abrah, Tayten, Taos and Pember Ruscher. He is also survived by brother Frederick Brandt and wife Carol, sister Rena Abel, sister in law Judy Bender, and brother in law Hugo (Babe) Wassermann. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends; as Lloyd was a talker, he never met a stranger, he found someone to talk to no matter where he went, thus leaving behind a wide array of friends, co-workers and many many acquaintances. He also leaves behind a very special God-daughter Stacie Lynn Brenemann. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as mother and father in law Hugo and Anna Wassermann, an infant son Robert Wayne Brandt, brothers Milton and Calvin Brandt, brother in law Herbert (Buck) Bender. Lloyd was very proud of the military legacy in his family. Sonja and Larry Cudd, Kristie Cudd Canterbury and Todd Canterbury, all of whom are retired from the United States Air Force; and Melody Cudd Velasquez and Shilo Velasquez who are active duty United States Army Soldiers.
