Obituary Kenneth Willard Carroll, 89, passed away Thursday, July 9, at Owatonna Hospital. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. For health and safety, all are encouraged to wear masks. Kenneth Carroll was born March 28, 1931, in Owatonna to George and Marie (Weiler) Carroll, the oldest of three sons. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1949 and continued his education at South Dakota State University in Brookings, graduating with a degree in Pharmacy. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with a medical unit in Austria and Italy. After discharge, Kenneth started his pharmacy career in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and eventually returned to Owatonna to work at Christgau’s, Owatonna Prescription Center, and Thrifty White, plus he did pharmacy freelance work when he was semi-retired. On August 24, 1974, he married Dorothy Horak, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and they celebrated 45 years of marriage shortly before she died in 2019. Kenneth and Dorothy enjoyed traveling to Europe and the Holy Land together and making friends wherever they went. Kenneth was gifted with a beautiful baritone voice that he shared with the community since he was a boy. He was one of the early OHS Christmas Carolers. Ken was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Adult Choir and was frequently requested to sing at weddings and funerals over the years. Besides his wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers John Roger and David. Survivors include his Carroll niece and nephews, Ruth Ann (Steve) Brownlow, Rochester; Steven (Kris) Jacobsen, Cannon Falls; Daniel (Mary) Jacobsen, Georgia; and Gary Carroll, Michigan; and special Carroll cousins; and Dorothy’s many nieces and nephews, including Anne Peterson, Owatonna.
