Obituary Joan M. Smith, 92, of Fostoria, passed away at 11:27 pm Thursday July 30, 2020 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. She was born August 27, 1927 in Cleveland to the late Francis J. and Mary A. (Werling) Koudelka. She married James E. Smith on May 10, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Tiffin and he preceded her in death in 1985. Surviving are five children, Suellen J. (Jerry Puterbaugh) Gehring, Fostoria, Janis M. (James) Foard, Findlay, Nancy L. (Beau) Nighswander, Bascom, Timothy J. Smith Indianopolis and Daniel J. (Malissa) Smith, Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren, Mark (Susan) Gehring, Gina Murray, Brittany (Steve) Lanicek, Ben Nighswander, Maleah (Shayne) Wells and DJ (Anna) Partee; seven great grandchildren, Steven, Lucy, Lila, Caroline, Griffin, Taylor and Gwen; brother, James F. (Judy) Koudelka, California; sister, Sister Mary Jo Koudelka, OSU, Toledo; and her special friend, Bob Haefling. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Greg Koudelka. Joan had worked at Massillon State Hospital, Boles-Dandurand Studio, Tiffin, Preis Store, Fostoria and retired from the Sears stores of Fostoria and Findlay after 28 years of service. Joan was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, its church choir and bell choir. She had been a member of the Sweet Adeline’s and Hancock County Harmonizers. She truly enjoyed music, especially playing the piano. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Tuesday August 4, 2020 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Poggemeyer presiding.
