JAMES R. TURNER 7/15/1942 – 7/23/20 Jim Turner passed away peacefully at Treasure Coast Hospice in Ft. Pierce, FL on Thursday, July 23, 2020, surrounded by his 3 loving daughters. He was born in Ft. Pierce, FL and graduated from Dan McCarty High School, class of 1960. He spent 2 years at Florida Southern where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi and Delta Sigma Pi fraternities. He was on the Inter-Fraternity Council. He completed college at Florida State University in 1964 with a degree in Finance. He was the Under Secretary of Finance for the student government. After college, he joined the National Guard in 1964. He was trained as a Personal Administration Specialist at basic training but then served as a Truck Squad Leader and then a Tank Squad Leader. He was honorably discharged as an E-5. Jim was a man of many accomplishments. He was the treasurer of the Sandy Shoes Festival Board for several years in the early 1970’s. In 1978, he took the building contractor course and built Southern Courtyard Apartments as well as several duplexes and homes. He also built several commercial units; the largest being Charlie’s Dodge. In 1984, he started two businesses, Apple Machine & Supply Company and Apple Industrial Hardware Store. Jim designed and built many citrus machines and has 2 patents on herbicide booms. He was also a founder of the local Treasure Coast Manufacturer’s Association and a member of the Professional Experts Association. He is survived by his 3 daughters: Darby M. Baird (Roswell, GA) and spouse; Bryan Baird, and their 4 children; Brice, Brianna, Sarah Grace and Katelyn. Michelle T. Hicks (Cumming, GA) and spouse; Douglas Hicks, and their 3 children; James, Charlie and William. Christine E. Turner (Ft. Pierce, FL) and her 2 children; Shelby and Annelise. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Enterline (Ft. Pierce, FL). The service will be held at Orange Avenue Baptist Church (100 Cyclone Drive, Ft. Pierce, FL 34945) on Thursday, July 30, 2020 with the viewing held between 2-4 pm and the service immediately following at 4pm. Reception to follow. To honor his life, the family would love to invite everyone to wear a red shirt and jeans like he always did to the viewing and service.
