Obituary David Walter Dieterich, 73, died on Thursday, July 23,2020 in Ames, Iowa. He was surrounded by the love of his family until the end of his life on this earth. Per David’s wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Iowa Medical School. He grew up on the family farm in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. His childhood was spent playing in the creek in the summer with the neighbor kids and in the fall walking across the field to catch the school bus with the Collier family. Winters were always a challenge with that long driveway, but there were sledding and ice-skating parties on the creek. After chores, he would take his snowblower and clear neighborhood driveways for a coffee can of chocolate chip cookies– which he did not share! Spring was a favorite time of year as he watched for the new calves in the pasture. David loved the farm and enjoyed seeing grandsons grow up with a similar childhood. David and Jeanette were married on February 25, 1971, in Ames and returned to St. Ansgar to farm. They were blessed with three children and thirty years of life on the farm. In 2000, David fulfilled their dream of living on a lake and they moved to Bass Lake, MN for 10 years. After becoming grandparents, they moved back to Ames to be closer to family and enjoy ISU sports. He and Jeanette worshiped at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church in Crosslake, MN, and Memorial Lutheran in Ames. David served as an elder at his home church in St. Ansgar, and he was also the caretaker of the Breezy Point Chapel in Minnesota for many summers. David is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Adele (Janzow) Dieterich, and in-laws Ralph and Shirley (Locke) Langner, and brother in-law, Norman Atwood. He is survived by his wife Jeanette; his children Nicholle Allen of Kansas City, MO, Carissa Dieterich of Lafayette, CO, and Randall (Kristine) of St. Ansgar, IA; siblings, Dorian Atwood of Fairfield, IA and Richard Dieterich of St. Ansgar, IA; and his 4 beloved grandsons, Hale, Kane, & Owen Dieterich and Gus Allen.
