Carol’s Obituary Carol Ann Butterfield “Giizhigookwe”, age 65, of Red Cliff, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was born on December 9, 1954 in Washburn, the daughter of Steven and Margaret (Charette) Butterfield. Carol graduated from Bayfield High School in 1973. She worked at various places in Red Cliff and Bayfield before retiring. She loved playing Bingo with her sisters, going to the casino and spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandson. She also loved to have her daily coffee with her friends at the elderly center. Carol was a very passionate elder and was very outspoken. She was always very cheerful and friendly and had a good sense of humor. She is survived by her daughter, Christie (Sean) Branagan – Red Cliff, 4 grandchildren, Marcos (Renee Topping) Lozano, Brittney Lozano, Joshuwa Lozano and Karly Lozano all of Red Cliff, a great-grandson, Mathias Lozano, her former husband, William R. Somers – Peoria, AZ, 2 sisters, Joyce (Anthony) Arnette – California and LeeAnn (Mitch) Crowe – Odanah, 2 brothers, Larry (Debbie) Butterfield Sr. – Red Cliff and Ted (Lillian) Bresette – Red Cliff, a sister-in-law, Karen Hopkins – Washburn, numerous nieces and nephews, a special niece, Terri Bearhart, friends from high school, Linda Bresette-Nelson, Mame Defoe-Babineau and Joanne Morris, friends, Linda and Paul Green – Peoria, AZ and many other friends from the Red Cliff Elderly Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Carl Butterfield Sr., James Butterfield, Duane Hopkins and David Hopkins and 2 sisters, Kathleen Hanson and Diane Rosen. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at her daughter, Christie’s home. Community cultural services, conducted by Jim Pete, will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday at Christie’s home, with a traditional feast to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
