Willard Howell Loving Father, Grandfather and Brother Waynesville-Willard Howell, age 94, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Friday, May 8, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Irene S. Howell and his mother, Willie Mae Palmer. Willard is survived by his daughter, Linda Howell Russell and her husband, Michael; his son, Dale Howell and his wife Linda all of Waynesville. He also leaves behind a half-sister, Jean Hightower of SC; four grandchildren, LuAnn Libertore and her husband, Chris of Candler, Leigh Ann VanSchaick and her husband, John of Hillsborough, Jeremiah Russell and his wife, Miranda of Clyde, and Afton Murray and her husband Nathan of Waynesville; eight great-grandchildren, Olivia and Liam VanSchaick, Eva and Emelia Libertore, Logan and Levi Russell and Halie and Norah Murray. He is a Haywood County native and former resident of Homestead, FL. Willard loved being a mechanic and worked for Leiphart Chevrolet for over 10 years. He also worked at Whitman’s Bakery and Waynesville Country Club. His passion was for farming, raising a garden and spending time with his family. Willard was a proud World War II Navy Veteran of the United States Military. Graveside Military Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Garrett-Hillcrest Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Nathan Murray officiating.
