Virginia’s Obituary Services for Virginia Louise Thompson, 89, of Vandalia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2020 at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Vandalia with Reverend Jamie Franke officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The general public is welcome to attend the service while following social distancing guidelines. Please stay six feet apart and avoid close contact. Anyone in attendance is asked to wear a mask or other personal protective equipment. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Thompson passed away at 8:47 p.m. May 12, 2020 at her home surrounded by family following a two and a half year stay at Tri-County Care Center. She was born July 27, 1930, the daughter of Claude and Lillian Lee Farmer Lovelace. She was born in the Farmer Hotel in Farmer, which was settled by and named after her great grandfather Moses Allen Farmer. She married Robert Eugene Thompson on August 13, 1950 in New London and he preceded her in death on May 29, 2017. Survivors include: many cousins and friends. Mrs. Thompson was a lifetime area resident and member of the Vandalia Presbyterian Church. She was a 1948 graduate of Bowling Green High School. She worked summers at Stark Nursery and upon graduation worked at Ely Walker from 1948 to 1950 and Elder Garment Factory from 1950 to 1960. She was secretary to the superintendent of Van-Far High School District for 31 years from 1960 until 1991. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Red Hat Society, Le Femme Art Club, Vandalia Country Club and Public School Retirement Association. She enjoyed gathering under the bridge when she was younger, traveling, spending time with friends and family and often told people to “go go go”. Pallbearers will be Roger Morff, Jerry Edmond, Clay Stuart, Jake Stuart, Don Willis, II, and George Riley.
