Lopez, age 55, of Williamstown, NJ, passed away suddenly on May 16, 2020. Vincent was a 1983 graduate of Clearview High School, Mullica Hill, NJ. During his junior year he passed the Sheet Metal Workers Union test which brought him entrance into Local 19. He completed high school then served a four-year apprenticeship with Local 19 to become a journeyman. From 1983-2011, Vincent worked in and around the Philadelphia area in various capacities of sheet metal, including ductwork, panel work, and air balancing. Vince loved to point out his work: panels on the Liberty buildings, air balancing at CHOP, ductwork and commissioning throughout the area. He would proudly state that he had worked on every major building in the city of Philadelphia. Vincent was always learning, questioning, and applying his knowledge to every new arena that presented itself. In the mid-90’s, Vincent moved to North Carolina where he continued working with air balancing building systems. It was there he obtained his Home Inspector’s certification, passing an eight-hour test covering all aspects of a well-built home: plumbing, heating, electrical, building codes and so on. He completed home inspections in North Carolina for a few years and continued for a short time when he moved back to New Jersey. Many friends and family benefited from Vincent’s knowledge while purchasing their homes. In 2011 Vincent began working at Ballinger-AE, Philadelphia, PA. There he began his new career as Manager of Commissioning Services. Over the next seven years, Vincent worked for various firms in a number of roles: Director of Commissioning Services at Brooks+Wright Commissioning LLC; Director of QAQC Mechanical Design and Director of Technical Commissioning at Brinjac Engineering, Philadelphia, PA; and Director of Commissioning Services at Wright Commissioning, Philadelphia, PA. Last year, Vincent built his own business, Vincent Lopez LLC, where he served as an independent advisor in all aspects of commissioning related to building systems. The main body of his work with the LLC was with Vision Properties, NJ, NC, FL, and MD, where Vincent was named Head of Engineering and with Liberty Harbor Construction, Jersey City, NJ. Vincent advertised and executed a proactive approach, striving to always provide service to his clients that rose above their expectations. Vincent knew the rules, the standards, the regulations, and the laws. He had an exceptional memory when it came to his craft and could often quote rules and regulations verbatim. One area of expertise that played an enormous part of Vincent’s professional life was his associations with The National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) and the Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing Bureau (TABB). He was NEBB-certified in Building System Commissioning, Air and Hydronic Systems and TABB-certified in Air and Hydronic Systems. Vincent spent many years working on numerous committees developing the Procedural Standards for Testing, Adjusting and Balancing of Environmental Systems. His professional affiliations and memberships included the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE), the MAEBA (NEBB) Local Chapter/Marketing Committee, and the NEBB BSC National Technical Committee. Vincent was also a talented craftsman who turned these skills into an independent general contracting business, Diversified Contractors (2003-2007). Much of the work consisted of building additions and finishing basements in homes throughout some of the more exclusive areas of Southern New Jersey. He was especially proud of the beautiful custom bars he designed and proud that his workers (including his son, daughter, their friends and sometimes even his own wife) learned many skills during this time. This endeavor provided Vince with the opportunity to teach his children about building something from the ground up and passing down the values of hard work, persistence, and the courage to try something new. This time together forged strong bonds as the whole family pitched in to make his business a success. An avid golfer, Vince spent as much time as he could navigating the greens and fairways of various golf courses in the area and beyond. No course was too far or too hard for him to conquer. He participated in numerous local business and charity tournaments and was thrilled when he became a member of his favorite club, White Manor Country Club, Malvern, PA. Additionally, Vincent was a talented drummer and marimba percussionist who honed his skills with the Clearview High School Marching Band, Mullica Hill, NJ, and continued demonstrating his skills with the prestigious Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, Allentown, PA, and the Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps, Reading, PA. When he was seventeen, his marimba skills afforded him the opportunity to play percussion with Spiro Gyra on two of their albums. Another time he was given an opportunity to play marimba for NJ Symphony while their percussionist recovered from a car accident. Throughout his life, Vincent remained involved as a drum instructor for various well-known regional corps and schools, including the Southern Knights Drum and Bugle Corp, Franklinville, NJ; Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps, Camden County, NJ; Williamstown High School Marching Band, Williamstown, NJ; and Cherry Hill West Marching Band, Cherry Hill, NJ. The drum beats, the rhythms, the math behind the rhythms coursed through his veins. Vincent loved spending time with his wife and children. Any project, he was there. Any chance to elevate them in any endeavor, he was there. He would go the extra mile to please any of them. One of his favorite things to do was to treat and show off his loved ones at the Center City Capital Grille. His coup de grâce was the rehearsal dinner for his son’s wedding. A memorable event that will long-be cherished. His generosity, his wry smile, his enormous presence, and his understated sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Despite objections from his friends and family, Vincent was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan. Never to be confused with a bandwagon fan, Vincent refused to just follow. He beat out his own path, marched to his own rhythm, and orchestrated a beautiful life. Predeceased by his father, Edward Lopez, Vince will forever remain in the hearts of his mother, Florence Lopez (nee Gamble), his wife and the love of his life, Honora Lopez (nee Kelley), the children he was devoted to, Daniel (Kiersten) and Natalie Lopez; and his brother Edward Lopez and sisters Christina Hand, Carol Lockman, and Debbie Hirleman.
