Obituary Theresa M. (Killelea) Flaherty, 92, formerly of Turners Falls, died Tuesday 5/5/20 at The Residents at Pearl Street in Reading, MA. She was born in Montague on March 10, 1928, the daughter of Lawrence and Elizabeth (Daigneault) Killelea. Theresa attended local schools in Montague and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School Class of 1946. Theresa continued her education at the Franklin County Public Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1949. Theresa retired as head nurse at the New England Medical Center in Boston and committed to raising her family. She was a homemaker, and in her later years while living locally, she enjoyed being a member of the Greenfield YMCA in their senior classes. She was a former communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Turners. Theresa was always active, loved reading, gardening, doing puzzles and walking on the beach. She enjoyed the culinary arts and was a good cook. Theresa was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed seeing them win. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Among her survivors, Theresa leaves a son, Mark Sabato and his wife Katie; three daughters, Lori Overstrom, Karen Hartzell and her husband James, and Elizabeth Griffin and her husband Paul; ten grandchildren, Katelyn Burtchett and her husband Brice, Jennifer Sabato and her fiance Wesley Sillineri; Mallory and Anders Overstrom, Christopher, Jonathan and Courtney Hartzell, Kelly Hutchinson and her husband Dan, Sean Griffin and his wife Emily and Timothy Griffin and his wife Suzanne; four great grandchildren, Payten, Scarlet, Liam, and Emma; and her only living sibling Navy Captain “Retired” Francis R. Killelea and his wife Waltraut of Annandale, VA. Theresa was predeceased by her first husband of twenty-eight years, Dr. Francis A. Sabato, Jr., DDS; her second husband of seventeen years, Daniel Flaherty; three sisters, Ellen Fowler, Betty Leveille and Rose Gilbert; and a brother, Lawrence Killelea, Jr. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, funeral services and burial will be held at a date and time when social gatherings are acceptable again. Memorial contributions may be made to Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, checks made out to the center and sent in care of Dorene Rentz, 32 Virginia Road, Natick, MA 01760, more information at www.madrc.org.
