Setsuko “Dorothy” Shinmoto July 30, 1934 – May 14, 2020 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card SETSUKO “DOROTHY” SHINMOTO Setsuko “Dorothy” Shinmoto, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2020, at her home in Torrance, California. Born in Watsonville, California, on July 30, 1934, Dorothy would go on to accomplish many things in her lifetime. On November 20, 1954, she married Minoru “Min” Shinmoto. They would spend 63 happy years together – raising a family of three children and also working together in the family retail nursery, Southern California Nursery in Culver City. A devoted mother and loving wife, Dorothy was loved by all who met her. She is predeceased by her husband, Minoru and youngest son, Craig Shinmoto. She is survived by her two children, Tracy Ann Wilson (Michael) and Steve Shinmoto (Susannah). Dorothy also had two grandchildren, Jason Schneider (Belia Salas) and Kristina Schneider. And there are two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Amaia Schneider. She is predeceased by her parents, Choichi and Fumiko Kido, and her sister, Helen. She is survived by her sister Elaine Hanamoto and brothers, Frank Kido (Marge) and Fred Kido (Candice), and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy, with her ready smile and generosity of spirit, will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Due to COVID-19 limitations, private burial services will be held with immediate family at Evergreen Cemetery, with Rev. Kory Quon of Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple officiating.
