Obituary Ruth Elizabeth (Dant) Polson, age 92, a resident of Glen Carbon, IL, since 1985, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at her home. Ruth was born on January 23, 1928 in Madison, IL, a daughter of the late Cecil Dant and Ida (Reinhart) Dant. Ruth attended St. Mary Catholic Grade School in Madison, IL and she graduated from Madison High School in 1944. On September 24, 1949, Ruth married John J. Polson, the love of her life in Madison, IL, and John passed away on July 28, 2016. Ruth worked at Glik’s Department Store in Madison, IL, as a clerk, sales lady and a shoe model. She then went to work for Nickel Plate Railroad and retired from Norfolk Western Railroad as a clerk after forty years of dedicated service. She served as President of the Railway Business Women St. Louis Chapter from 1968 to 1969. Ruth was also a faithful member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon, IL, since 1985, and a member of the 40 and 4 Club in St. Louis, MO. Ruth never met a stranger and she made friends easily. She enjoyed working in her yard and water garden. She also enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. Ruth was instrumental in organizing the Madison High School yearly class reunions for 2007 and 2008. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. Ruth will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Francis Dant; and by her son-in-law, Mark Morgan. She is survived by her loving daughter, Nancy Jo Polson-Morgan of Edwardsville, IL; granddog, Furbaby Micah Valentine; extended family and many friends. Ruth deserves a beautiful tribute. However, a private family mass will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon, IL, on Thursday, May 21, 2020, because of the excessive laws concerning funerals and burials as a result of the coronavirus. Ruth will be laid to rest next to John at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date when it is safe for her family and friends to gather together. Memorial donations may be given in the form of masses or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Donations may be mailed to the funeral chapel.
