Robert’s Obituary On November 24, 1947 Robert E. Griffin was born to Gracie Lee (Tinney) and Clifford B. Griffin of Henly TX. On May 20, 2020, his battle with colon cancer ended at his home in Henly, TX with his wife Jo Ann (Lagler) and son Scott at his bedside. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Cecil of Henly, TX, Leroy of Austin, TX, Alton of Seguin TX, Kenneth of Garfield, TX and Jim of Winchester, TX. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann; one son Scott of Chappell; NE and one brother Elbert (Dave); and sisters in law, Edith Griffin of Seguin, Renee Griffin of Cedar Park, TX, and Marilyn Griffin of Winchester. Bob grew up on a farm near Henly where he helped his dad raise angora goats and turkeys. He attended grade school and high school in Johnson City, TX where he graduated in 1967. He enjoyed sports and became a great baseball pitcher. In July of 1967 Bob joined the U.S. Air Force, was sent to San Antonio for basic training and then stationed in Cheyenne, WY. His deployment to Thailand was cut short when he got hepatitis and eventually discharged from the service. While in Cheyenne he met Jo Ann and they became close friends. They were married in December of 1969. Bob convinced his new bride that Texas was the best place to live. They lived in Cedar Creek Texas for 30 years and then moved to their present location on part of his home place by Henly, TX. Bob had odd jobs until he went to work for the IRS and retired from there with over 30 years of service. He retired in 2004. In 2004 Bob and Jo Ann built their dream home on his home place near Henly. Here they raised some beautiful Charolais cattle. He was a very meticulous person and all things had to be perfect He was good at making beautiful items from wood. He converted several sewing machine bases into beautiful tables. He also made a pie safe for Jo Ann and his latest was a beautiful cedar gun rack. He had a Harley that he would love to ride on the back roads. He also pitched washers with his son and brothers. He loved country music especially George Jones, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, George Strait and the list goes on. He could never understand what happened to country music. He was also a FORD man. I think if someone gave him a brand new Chevrolet he wouldn’t have taken it. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. Memorial services may be held at a later date.
