Richard K. Johannes, 84, of Placerville, CA, and most recently as a resident of Eskaton Lodge Cameron Park, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2020. Richard was raised in Old Hickory, TN, the son of the late Karl F.W. Johannes and Gladys (Goergens) Johannes. He received his Bachelor’s in Science Degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). He spent most of his career as an engineer with the E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company (Dupont) in Wilmington, DE before embarking as a technology consultant later in life in his new home state of California. Many who have met Richard knew him as a happy go lucky person, with a keen ability to strike up an interesting conversation with anyone. He had many active interests over his life, including but not limited to fishing, playing tennis, photography, travel and a special love of horses that he shared with his late wife Melissa. They both loved to trail ride with their two horses, Lucky and Doctor Pepper. Richard was an active member of the Light of the Hills Lutheran Church, Cameron Park, CA and was active in several of their ministries. Richard also proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of officer. Richard is preceded in death by his second wife, Melissa (Mundy) Johannes. Richard is survived by his daughters from his first marriage Robin (Johannes) Valdes and her husband Angel of Coral Gables, FL; Amanda (Johannes) DiRienz and her husband Mark of Kilmarnock, VA; and Kelly (Johannes) Rosa and her husband Todd of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren; a twin sister Mary Ann (Johannes) Holter, nephew Karl Holter and niece Anne Lise Bjerkas, all of Norway; mother-in-law Nancy Oden of Bristol, RI; brother-in-law Chris Mundy and his wife Nancy of South Palm Beach, FL; and brother-in-law Rhett Mundy of Kyoto, Japan. Due to the current corona virus pandemic, services will be private. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery, 3004 Alexandrite Drive, Rescue, CA 95672. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to the Light of the Hills Lutheran Church, 3100 Rodeo Road, Cameron Park, CA 95682.
