April 27 1934 May 21 2020
Monserrate Ponce Otero Born April 27, 1934 Deceased May 21,2020 Monserrate was born and raised in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. At a young age she moved to Carolina, Puerto Rico where she fell in love and had her three children, Hedrian, Dania and Barbara. She moved back to Vega Baja where she worked as a cook in the schools in the municipality to raise her children. Looking for the care of her daughters and grandchildren she moved to Trenton, New Jersey where she lived for more than 20 years. She then relocated to Florida looking for a change and in hope to gather all her family close to her and her only living sibling Mateo and his family. She did not have a degree but learned at a young age the price of sacrifice. She was a hard worker who loved to read and kept up to date in the social and political issues in the island. She was a great cook and would provide for her family with whatever she had available, making a great feast, or just having a simple dinner with “arroz and huevos fritos”. But no one went to bed in her house with an empty stomach. Once she retired, she would love to go with her daughters and granddaughters to the casino to play in the slot machines. She was always careful not to lose too much and once she won; it was time to go. She was fashionable, well dressed and would never leave the house without her jewelry. She was caring and giving. She gave to all the needy that passed her way and took in, people into her house that at giving moment needed a hand. She always served her community and was a great leader. She was a strong shoulder to lean on and the structure that held this family together. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her laughter and her beautiful smile. She was a woman who honestly believed that prayer is essential in our lives and that God has a purpose for everything we go through. She passed away peacefully in Altamonte Florida where she had been hospitalized. She will always be remembered by her three children, Hedrian, Dania, and Barbara and her daughter in law, Awilda; her brother Mateo and his spouse Wanda, her grandchildren Adriana, Michelle, Natasha, Liz, Neldanis, Josean, Nicole, Ashlian and Ermelinda,; her great grandchildren Kamari, Xavier, Xaire , Adrian, Carmelo, Orlando Max, Ava, Damian, Amari, Darianna, Alani; her nieces and nephews Gabriel, Vicente, Carmelo, Mateo Jr., Clarissa, Glorimar, Enrique, Matilde, Elias, Esteban, José, Norayma and by all the other beloved family members and friends.
